RAP: 1%–10% of total AGI, divided by 12, minus $50 per dependent, at least $10. Rules as of Sep 26, 2026.

How this works, and what it leaves out
    • Payment: 1% to 10% of total AGI by $10,000 bracket, divided by 12, minus $50 per dependent, at least $10 a month (Repayment Assistance Plan, from July 1, 2026).
    • When a payment doesn’t cover the month’s interest, the rest is waived. If a payment lowers principal by less than $50, the government matches up to $50.
    • Forgiveness after 360 qualifying payments is taxed as income. With PSLF, forgiveness after 120 payments is tax-free.
    • Your AGI grows at the rate you set, and RAP is recalculated yearly. It doesn’t model a spouse’s loans, deferment or forbearance.
