About Ryan and the reviewer

Ryan Smith, DDS

Ryan is a dentist who owns and runs several practices and employs associate dentists. He sees the money side of dentistry from both chairs: the associate deciding what to do with a first production check, and the owner making payroll. He also publishes The Dental Grind and TheDentalMachine for dentists.

Ryan writes and approves every page on this site. He isn’t a financial advisor, and this site doesn’t give individual financial advice. That’s why every finance page also gets an independent expert review.

The expert reviewer

We’re bringing on a Certified Student Loan Professional (CSLP) or CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional to review every finance page. Until they sign off, each page says “expert review pending” at the top. Their name, credentials and review date will appear on every page they review.

What we promise

• Numbers first, with dates and sources, on everything that changes.
• We tell you when not to refinance, even though refinancing is how this site earns most of its money.
• Rankings never follow payouts. How we rank lenders.
• No paid “forgiveness” or “debt relief” services, ever. Federal consolidation and PSLF applications are free at studentaid.gov.
